The advantages of using games in the language classroom

The advantages of using games in the language classroom:

Games are not just time-filling activities but have a great educational value. The teacher use games in the classroom from time to time to help and encourage many learners to keep up their interest and work in other words “break the routines”. Games also help the teacher to create contexts in which the language is useful and meaningful. In some games they give the students the opportunity to understand what others are saying or have written, to speak or to write in order to express their own point of view or give information.They are motivating and challenging for the students. They encourage students to interact and communicate. They also improve the skills “reading, writing, speaking and listening” and their memorize of the grammars rules & vocabularies with their spelling. Finally, they create a meaningful context for language use.

Educational Technology

*Educational technology:

Is the use of technology in education to improve learning and teaching & it's not restricted to the education of children, nor to the use of high technology. Using high-technology to enhance learning in ( kindergarten (4-6-year-old) through 12th grade or (16-19 years old) classrooms .

Many different types of technology can be used to support, to improve student achievement. Everything from video content and digital moviemaking to laptop computing and handheld technologies computer,closed-circuit television channels, projector (data show) & even the cell phones that many students now carry with them can be used to learn have been used in classrooms as we see nowadays .

* The advantages of using a computer in the classroom and the purposes of using it are:

· To increase students basic skills and knowledge.

· To introduce topics, provide means for self-study.

· Offer opportunities to learn concepts which some time difficult to the student to get them.

· Support students' reasoning and problem-solving abilities.

· Can used as tool that can be useful in particular goals in the learning process.

· Can serve as a resource to help develop higher order thinking.

*The issues that may face the teacher while using computer technology in the classroom:

· Placement- do students/teacher have easy access?

· Portability- can computers be moved?

· Security- can computers be secured?

· Display- can computer be seen by all students?

· What if suddenly the computer stops working?

· Using it as part of large group activities or small group activities?

· what if you have difficulty in connecting it with some other devices such as (printer or projector "side show".)

To conclude , as a teacher what do you think ? computer is playing a big role in teaching nowadays ,will using it be useful even though you may face many issues while using it ?
